The missing letters must complete the letters on the left (by joining on to the end of them) AND start the letters on the right (by joining on to the front of them), so that two new, complete, real words are formed. Only one of the five lettered options fits correctly on both sides. Choose the correct three-letter string from options A) to E). RIP half-works: T+RIP=TRIP is a real word, but RIP+ID=RIPID is not, so it fails the right-hand check. SOL half-works the other way: SOL+ID=SOLID is a real word, but T+SOL=TSOL is not, so it fails the left-hand check. CAB is a common word, but TCAB and CABID are not real words. OWL is a common word, but TOWL and OWLID are not real words.
