Verbal Reasoning Mixed Practice Set H

Mixed Practice Set H is an eighth full-length verbal reasoning practice paper, shuffling GL Assessment question types together under timed conditions. This set leans on number sequences built from square numbers and multiplying rules, word-association double meanings, and words hidden across the join between two other words, alongside logic chains and letters-for-numbers codes, continuing to build the speed of switching technique between very different question types that a real timed paper demands.

Before you start

Make sure you're comfortable with these topics first:

Method

  1. Identify the question family from its instruction line before reading the detail, since number, letter and word-meaning questions each start with a different technique.
  2. For number sequences built from a growing multiplication or a square-number pattern, test whether each term relates to a simple times-table or a squared position number before assuming the gaps must be constant.
  3. For hidden-word questions, check the letters at the exact join between the two named words, since the hidden word is built from the end of one and the start of the other, not from anywhere else in the sentence.
  4. For double-meaning questions, write down both given definitions separately and think of two or three candidate words for each before looking for the one word that appears on both lists.
  5. For logic chains, convert each comparison into a simple order as you read it, linking statements only where they share a common person or item.
  6. Keep a steady pace across the paper, marking your best guess on anything that is taking too long and returning to it only if time remains at the end.

Worked example

Find the next number in the series: 1, 4, 9, 16, 25, ( ? )

  1. Identify the question type: a number series with a fast-growing gap is often built from a simple rule applied to each position, such as squaring, so test that first.
  2. Check each term against its position number, squared: position 1 squared is 1, position 2 squared is 4, position 3 squared is 9, position 4 squared is 16, position 5 squared is 25, every term matches its position squared exactly.
  3. Apply the same rule to the sixth position: 6 squared is 6 x 6 = 36.
  4. Final answer: 36.
