Maths: Full Practice Paper (Core, Calculator, Set 6)
This full-length, ISEB-style 13+ Common Entrance Core Maths paper allows a calculator and provides a sixth complete set of Core-specification questions, testing the same range of content as the other Calculator papers, number and calculation, fractions, decimals and percentages, ratio and proportion, algebra, geometry and measures, and statistics and probability, with an emphasis on choosing the right calculation and using the calculator accurately.
Before you start
Make sure you're comfortable with these topics first:
Method
- Before calculating, decide whether the question needs an exact answer, a rounded answer, or an answer given to a stated number of decimal places or significant figures.
- For compound measures such as speed, density or rate, write down the formula in words first, then substitute the numbers given in the question.
- When a question describes a percentage increase or decrease, convert it to a single decimal multiplier before calculating, rather than finding the percentage and then adding or subtracting it as a separate step.
- Use the calculator to check arithmetic you have already done by another method, rather than only for new calculations, to catch transcription errors.
- For statistics questions, such as finding a mean, add all the values carefully before dividing, double-checking the total on the calculator.
- Present your final answer clearly with the correct units, and re-read the question to confirm you have rounded to the accuracy requested.
Worked example
Over 5 matches, a football team scores 2, 0, 3, 1 and 4 goals. (a) Work out the mean number of goals scored per match. (b) In the next match the team scores 6 goals. Work out the new mean for all 6 matches.
- Add the goals scored in the first 5 matches: 2 + 0 + 3 + 1 + 4 = 10.
- Divide the total by the number of matches to find the mean: 10 / 5 = 2 goals per match.
- Add the new match's goals to the previous total: 10 + 6 = 16.
- Divide by the new number of matches: 16 / 6 = 2.67 (to 2 decimal places).
- State the final answer: the new mean is 2.67 goals per match, to 2 decimal places.

Q6A car's value depreciates from 18,000 pounds to 14,400 pounds in one year. Work out the percentage decrease.Show answer
Answer: 20% (decrease = 3600, and 3600 / 18000 = 0.2 = 20%)
