Work out how the first pair of words is linked, then choose the option (A to E) that completes the second pair in exactly the same way. Only one option is correct in each question. Study the worked example below before you begin: notice how the wrong options are all around the right idea but each misses the relationship in a different way, for example the wrong level of detail, the wrong word type, or a word linked to the third word by a different and weaker connection. Work steadily through the questions in order: they start off easier and get harder as you go.

Spring is one specific example within the wider category of a season; it names a type of season. Monday, in the same way, is one specific example within the wider category of a day; it names a type of day. Week is too large a unit, containing many days rather than naming the category Monday belongs to. Tuesday is another specific example of a day, not the general category itself, so it cannot complete the relationship. Calendar is the tool that lists all the days, not the category name. Weekend describes a pair of specific days, not the general category that Monday, as a weekday, belongs to.
