Every Tuesday morning, Class 3 walks across the playground to the school garden. Inside the small greenhouse, rows of seedlings sit on the shelves, waiting for the warmer weather. Mr Denton kneels beside the raised beds and shows the children how to plant beans between the wooden canes. 'Water them gently,' he says, 'and never leave the watering cans in the sun.' After morning break, the class returns to check on the strawberry patch beneath the netting. Zara notices a ladybird resting on a leaf and calls her friends over to look. By the end of the lesson, everyone has muddy knees and proud smiles. The children line up outside the shed until the bell rings, then walk back through the gate towards the classroom, already looking forward to next Tuesday.
