GL-Style Full Mixed Mock 11
GL-Style Full Mixed Mock 11 is a full mixed 11+ paper modelled on a GL-style test that includes English, maths, verbal reasoning and non-verbal reasoning in one sitting, requiring pupils to switch between reading, calculating and pattern-spotting skills within a single timed session. It focuses on the maths and numerical reasoning content within such a paper: arithmetic, fractions, percentages, ratio, measures and worded problems, often set as short, discrete questions rather than long multi-part ones.

Method
- Before the test, find out from your target school exactly which of the four GL question types (English, maths, verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning) their paper includes and in what order, since GL papers are configured differently by different consortia.
- Move through the maths and numerical reasoning questions at a brisk, steady pace, since GL maths questions are usually short and worth similar marks each, so no single question is worth lingering over.
- For worded problems, extract the key numbers and the operation being asked for (total, difference, share) before calculating, rather than starting to calculate straight away.
- Use estimation to sanity-check your answers on multiple-choice items, since a wildly out-of-range answer usually signals a calculation error.
- Keep a consistent method for showing working even on short questions, so that if you run out of time you can still pick up method marks on questions you started but did not finish.
- In any time left over at the end of the maths section, recheck calculations rather than second-guessing answers you were originally confident about.
Worked example
A school trip costs 14.50 pounds per pupil. There are 6 classes of 28 pupils each going on the trip. What is the total cost of the trip?
- Find the total number of pupils going: 6 classes x 28 pupils = 168 pupils.
- Find the total cost by multiplying the number of pupils by the cost per pupil: 168 x 14.50.
- Break the multiplication down: 168 x 14 = 2,352, and 168 x 0.50 = 84.
- Add the two parts together: 2,352 + 84 = 2,436.
- Final answer: the total cost of the trip is 2,436 pounds.
