Verbal Reasoning Mixed Practice Set D
Mixed Practice Set D is a fourth full-length verbal reasoning practice paper, mixing GL Assessment question types under timed conditions. This set brings letter-pair analogies, double meanings and logic chains together with number series and vocabulary, continuing to build the speed of switching technique between very different question types in the space of a single page, which is the single biggest difference between practising one topic at a time and sitting a real paper.
Before you start
Make sure you're comfortable with these topics first:
Method
- Identify the question family from its instruction line before reading the detail, since letter, number and word-meaning questions each need a different starting move.
- For letter-pair analogies, work out how each letter of the pair changes separately, since the two letters can move by different amounts or follow different rules.
- For logic chains, write the comparisons out as a simple order from the start, rather than trying to hold four names and their relationships in your head.
- For double-meaning questions, write down both definitions and test each candidate word against both before choosing.
- For number series, always write the gaps between terms in a row first; most series reveal their rule as soon as the gaps are lined up.
- Keep moving through the paper at a steady pace, flagging anything uncertain rather than dwelling on a single hard question.
Worked example
Find the next number in the series: 64, 32, 16, 8, 4, ( ? )
- Compare each term with the one before it: 64 to 32 is halved, 32 to 16 is halved, 16 to 8 is halved, 8 to 4 is halved.
- The rule is constant: each term is divided by 2 to get the next.
- Apply the rule once more: 4 divided by 2 = 2.
- Final answer: 2.
