Verbal Reasoning Mixed Practice Set E
Mixed Practice Set E is a fifth full-length verbal reasoning practice paper, shuffling GL Assessment question types together as they appear on the real exam. Logic deduction anchors this set, both straightforward chains and the trickier cases where the given statements genuinely cannot be resolved, alongside letter codes, number connections and vocabulary, so pupils practise telling a properly unanswerable question apart from one they simply have not worked out yet.
Before you start
Make sure you're comfortable with these topics first:
Method
- Read the instruction line first to identify the question family, then switch technique accordingly rather than reading every question the same way.
- For logic deduction, build a simple order from each statement and only combine statements that share a common person or item.
- Before answering 'who is X', check that every person named in the question actually appears somewhere in your chain; if someone is missing from every link, the answer may be that it cannot be determined.
- For letter codes, confirm the shift against the whole demonstration word before applying it to the new word.
- For number connections, state the rule from the single example pair in words before applying it, since a rule you can say clearly is far less likely to be misapplied.
- Pace yourself evenly across the paper, since logic deduction questions can eat time if you re-read the statements repeatedly instead of writing the order down once.
Worked example
Nina is older than Omar. Omar is older than Priya. Priya is older than Ravi. Who is the second youngest?
- Write the first statement as an order: Nina is older than Omar, so Nina is above Omar.
- Add the next two statements in the same way: Omar above Priya, and Priya above Ravi.
- Chain the three orders together, since each shares a name with the next: Nina, Omar, Priya, Ravi, from oldest to youngest.
- The youngest is Ravi, so the second youngest is the person just above him in the chain, Priya.
- Final answer: Priya.
