Maths: Full Practice Paper (Core, Calculator, Set 4)
This full-length, ISEB-style 13+ Common Entrance Core Maths paper allows a calculator throughout, so alongside the same Core content as the non-calculator papers, number and calculation, fractions, decimals and percentages, ratio and proportion, algebra, geometry and measures, and statistics and probability, it also tests sensible calculator use, correct rounding, and picking the right calculation to key in for a worded problem.
Before you start
Make sure you're comfortable with these topics first:
Method
- Decide what calculation a worded question actually needs before you touch the calculator, since a correctly used calculator cannot rescue the wrong method.
- Key in a whole expression in one go using brackets where needed, rather than splitting it into several separate calculator lines, to avoid losing accuracy through early rounding.
- Check your calculator is in the mode the question needs, particularly degrees rather than radians for any angle work.
- Round your final answer only, and only to the accuracy the question asks for, such as to the nearest penny or to one decimal place.
- Use estimation to sanity-check every calculator answer, since a slipped digit on the keypad can otherwise go unnoticed.
- Write down the calculation you keyed in as part of your working, since method marks are still available even where a calculator answer is wrong.
Worked example
A company's profit was 18,400 pounds last year. This year the profit increased by 8.5%. Work out this year's profit, giving your answer to the nearest pound.
- Recognise that an 8.5% increase means multiplying the original amount by 1.085.
- Key in the calculation on your calculator: 18400 x 1.085.
- Read off the calculator display: 19964.
- Check the size of the answer against an estimate: 18400 plus 10% of 18400 (1840) is close to 20240, and 19964 is a sensible amount less than this.
- State the final answer: this year's profit was 19,964 pounds.

Answer: 8.8 cm (84 / 9.6 = 8.75, which rounds to 8.8)
