Name: _______________________________    Date: ____ / ____ / ______
In each question below there is a sentence. Hidden inside the sentence, between two words that are next to each other, is a word of four letters. The hidden word is made using the last letter or letters of the first word and the first letter or letters of the second word (for example, the end of one word joined to the start of the next). The hidden word never uses the very first letter of the sentence or the very last letter of the sentence, and it is never split by a comma or full stop. Read each sentence carefully, work out the hidden word, and choose the matching option from A) to E). Study the worked example before you begin.
Worked example. A word of four letters is hidden between two words that are next to each other in the sentence below. The hidden word uses the last letter(s) of the first word and the first letter(s) of the second word. Find the hidden word. "The old ammo attached to the display case fascinated every visitor." A) ATOM B) MOAT C) TAME D) OATS E) MOAN Answer: B. AMMO ends in ...MO and ATTACHED begins AT..., so the last two letters of AMMO joined to the first two letters of ATTACHED spell MOAT. None of the other four letters combinations found at word boundaries in the sentence spell a real word, so B) MOAT is the only defensible answer.
