Name: _______________________________    Date: ____ / ____ / ______
Each question below gives a sentence. Somewhere inside it, spanning two words that sit next to each other, is a hidden word of four letters. This hidden word is built from the final letter or letters of the first word followed by the opening letter or letters of the second word (for instance, the tail end of one word fused with the start of the next). The hidden word is never taken from just the first word of the sentence or just the last word, and it never straddles a comma or full stop. Read each sentence closely, work out the four letters that are hidden, and pick the matching option from A) to E). Look carefully at the worked example first.
Worked example. A word of four letters is hidden between two words that are next to each other in the sentence below. The hidden word uses the last letter(s) of the first word and the first letter(s) of the second word. Find the hidden word. "They arrived before storms rolled across the valley." A) STOP B) REST C) ROLL D) OVER E) SLOW Answer: B. BEFORE ends in ...RE and STORMS begins ST..., so the last two letters of BEFORE joined to the first two letters of STORMS spell REST. No other word boundary in the sentence spells a real word, so B) REST is the only defensible answer.
