GL ASSESSMENT EP.V67 · Calculators not allowed · about 32 minutes
Total Marks
Name: _______________________________    Date: ____ / ____ / ______
This is a 32-minute mixed-format Verbal Reasoning practice test (Set Y), styled on GL Assessment 11+ multiple-choice papers. It is an all-new set of mixed reasoning questions on this topic. There are 32 questions in 8 timed sections: Letter Sequences, Letter and Number Codes, Move a Letter, Hidden Words, Word Analogies, Odd One Out, Compound Words and Closest and Opposite Meaning. Every question is worth 1 mark, for 32 marks in total. Difficulty increases within each section and across the pack as a whole, from below-target opening questions through core target-level questions to a harder final stretch. For each question, choose the ONE best answer from the options A to E. No calculator is allowed. Work through the sections in order and try to keep to the suggested time shown at the start of each section. If you are unsure of an answer, mark your best guess and move on, then return to it at the end if there is time left.
Worked example. Worked example (Move a Letter): Move one letter from STONE to the front of ON to make two new, real words. The remaining letters of STONE must stay in the same order. Which letter moves? A) T B) O C) N D) E E) S Answer: E. Test removing each letter of STONE in turn and check whether what remains is a real word, keeping the other letters in their original order: removing S leaves TONE, a real word; removing T, O, N or E leaves SONE, STNE, STOE or STON, none of which are real words. Then check that S can be added to the front of ON to make a real word: S + ON = SON, which works. So S is the letter that moves, giving TONE and SON. Always test each letter fully - both what is left behind and what the moved letter builds - before choosing your final answer, since a letter can sometimes leave a real word behind but fail to build a word at the other end, or the reverse. Use this same careful, letter-by-letter checking method across every section of this pack, from letter sequences and codes through move-a-letter, hidden words, analogies, odd one out, compound words and meanings.
