On Saturday morning, thick grey clouds rolled quietly across the sky above Blackthorn Bay. Maya zipped up her yellow raincoat and grabbed her battered notebook. "Hurry up, we will miss the tide!" shouted her brother Callum from the garden gate.
Although the wind had grown stronger, Maya still wanted to search the rockpools for crabs. She climbed carefully over the slippery boulders because she did not want to fall. Suddenly, a huge wave crashed against the harbour wall and sprayed the two children with icy water. Callum laughed loudly and shook the water from his curly hair.
"Can you see anything unusual near that rock?" asked Maya, pointing towards a shallow pool. Callum peered closely and discovered a small, tangled piece of rope tied to an old brass key. What could it possibly unlock? They quickly hurried home, clutching their strange discovery, while the storm rumbled ominously overhead.
