GL-Style English and Verbal Reasoning Mock 2
The GL-Style English and Verbal Reasoning Mock 2 repeats the short-English, longer-reasoning structure of GL Assessment's combined papers, with a fresh source text and a verbal reasoning section built from named types including number sequences and odd-one-out alongside analogies and codes. It applies the same overall pacing strategy of English first, then the larger reasoning block, while presenting new question content.
Before you start
Make sure you're comfortable with these topics first:
Method
- Start the same way as EP.T17: read the English source once fully, then answer its questions by returning to the named part of the text.
- Move into the reasoning section expecting some familiar question types and some new ones; do not assume the mix will be identical to a previous mock.
- For odd-one-out questions, establish what the majority of the words or numbers have in common before deciding which one does not fit.
- For number sequences, check for more than one possible rule (adding a fixed amount, multiplying, or a growing gap) before settling on an answer, since a plausible-looking early pattern can break later in the sequence.
- Keep your pace even across the reasoning section's many questions rather than slowing down on the types you find hardest; a guess and a move-on protects your overall score more than a perfect answer to one hard question.
- If a question type repeats across several questions in a row, use the method that worked on the first one consistently rather than re-deriving it each time.
- In the last few minutes, check that no question across either section has been left blank.
Worked example
Odd-one-out question: Which one of these numbers does not belong with the others: 4, 9, 16, 20, 25?
- Look for a shared property among most of the numbers: 4, 9, 16 and 25 are all square numbers (2x2, 3x3, 4x4, 5x5).
- Check the remaining number, 20, against this property: 20 is not a square number, since no whole number multiplied by itself gives 20.
- Confirm that four of the five numbers share the square-number property and only one does not.
- Final answer: 20 is the odd one out, since it is the only number in the list that is not a square number.
