SECTION 1: MATHS/NUMERICAL (22 minutes, Questions 1-25) - 25 multiple-choice questions covering number, fractions, decimals, percentages, ratio, simple algebra, geometry, measures, averages and multi-step word problems, moving from straightforward warm-up questions to harder multi-step problems by the end. No calculator is allowed; all working should be done by hand in the space provided. SECTION 2: VERBAL REASONING AND COMPREHENSION (20 minutes, Questions 26-50) - 15 verbal reasoning questions covering letter sequences, word connections, opposites, closest meanings, word codes, letters-for-numbers, hidden words, compound words, odd one out and logical deduction, followed by an original comprehension passage with 10 further questions covering main idea, inference, vocabulary in context, text structure and detail recall. Every question across both sections is worth 1 mark, with exactly one correct option from A) to E). There is no negative marking, so attempt every question, and use any time left at the end of a section to check your answers before moving on. Total marks available: 50.
The Attic Telescope

When Kwame finally found the courage to climb into his grandfather's attic, he was searching for nothing more exciting than a box of old photographs. Instead, tucked behind a stack of yellowing newspapers, he discovered a brass telescope, its lens clouded with decades of dust.
'That belonged to your great-grandfather,' said his grandfather, appearing in the doorway with a look of quiet surprise. 'He used it to chart the stars from the back garden every clear night for thirty years.'
Kwame carried the telescope downstairs and spent the whole evening polishing the brass tube until it gleamed. His younger sister, Priya, was doubtful. 'It's ancient,' she said. 'It probably doesn't even work anymore.'
That night, once the sky had darkened enough, Kwame set the telescope up on the patio and aimed it hesitantly towards the moon. For a moment there was nothing but a blur, and he almost gave up. Then, as he adjusted the focusing ring with trembling fingers, the surface of the moon snapped suddenly into view: craters, ridges and shadows he had never noticed with his bare eyes.
'Priya, come and look!' he called, his voice cracking with excitement.
His sister peered through the eyepiece and fell silent for a long moment. 'I didn't think it would look like that,' she admitted eventually. 'It's like a whole different moon.'
Over the following weeks, the two of them took it in turns to use the telescope, keeping a notebook of everything they observed, just as their great-grandfather once had. They noted the changing phases of the moon, tracked the position of a bright planet low on the horizon, and even spotted a faint smudge of light that their grandfather later identified as a distant galaxy.
By the end of the summer, Kwame no longer thought of the telescope as an old, forgotten object gathering dust in an attic. It had become a kind of bridge between himself and a relative he had never met, connecting three generations through nothing more than curiosity and a clear night sky.
