Worked example. P=4, Q=7, R=2, S=9, T=5. Work out Q - R + P. Which letter has this value? Answer: S. Working left to right (only addition and subtraction are involved, so order does not change the result): Q - R + P = 7 - 2 + 4 = 9. Since S = 9, the letter S has this value, so S is correct.
