Each question uses a code in which letters stand for numbers, for example L=6, M=11, N=3, P=8, Q=14. Use these values to work out the calculation given, then select the option, A) to E), whose letter matches your result. When a calculation involves more than one operation, apply the order of operations: work out any brackets first, then multiplication and division, then addition and subtraction. Each question has only one correct answer.
Worked example. L=6, M=11, N=3, P=8, Q=14. Work out M - N + L. Which letter has this value? Answer: Q. Working left to right (only addition and subtraction are involved, so the order does not change the result): M - N + L = 11 - 3 + 6 = 14. Since Q = 14, the letter Q has this value, so Q is correct.
