EP.V30 Verbal Reasoning Mixed Practice Set F

Calculators not allowed · about 40 minutes
Total Marks
Name: _______________________________    Date: ____ / ____ / ______
This is a 40-minute mixed-format Verbal Reasoning practice test (Set F), styled on GL Assessment 11+ multiple-choice papers. There are 45 questions in 10 timed sections: Closest in Meaning, Opposite in Meaning, Odd One Out, Number Connections, Compound Words, Complete the Third Pair, Letter Sequences, Number Series, Word Codes and Logic Deduction. Every question is worth 1 mark, for 45 marks in total. Difficulty increases within each section and across the pack as a whole. For each question, choose the ONE best answer from the options A to E. No calculator is allowed. Work through the sections in order and try to keep to the suggested time shown at the start of each section. If you are unsure of an answer, mark your best guess and move on, then return to it at the end if there is time left.
Worked example. Worked example (Complete the Third Pair): look at the first two pairs. LOUD is to QUIET, and FULL is to EMPTY. Work out how the words in each pair are connected, then use the same connection to complete the third pair: RAPID is to ( ? ). Answer: SLOW. LOUD/QUIET and FULL/EMPTY are both pairs of opposites. Applying the same 'opposite' connection to RAPID gives its opposite, SLOW. In every Complete the Third Pair question, first work out exactly how the two given pairs are connected (opposites, part to whole, creator to creation, and so on), then apply that same connection to the incomplete third pair before checking your answer against the options.
