This is a 32-minute mixed-format Verbal Reasoning practice test (Set T), styled on GL Assessment 11+ multiple-choice papers. It is an all-new set of mixed reasoning questions on this topic. There are 32 questions in 8 timed sections: Closest in Meaning, Compound Words, Hidden Words, Move a Letter, Letter Sequences, Word Codes, Number Series and Odd One Out. Every question is worth 1 mark, for 32 marks in total. Difficulty increases within each section and across the pack as a whole, from below-target opening questions through core target-level questions to a harder final stretch. For each question, choose the ONE best answer from the options A to E. No calculator is allowed. Work through the sections in order and try to keep to the suggested time shown at the start of each section. If you are unsure of an answer, mark your best guess and move on, then return to it at the end if there is time left.
Worked example. Worked example (Move a Letter): one letter moves from the end of the first word to the front of the second word, so that both the word it leaves behind and the new word it forms are correctly spelled real words. Which option shows this done correctly for SHINE and GO?
A) Shin and Ego B) Hine and Sgo C) Shine and Go D) Shi and Nego E) Shne and Igo Answer: A. Moving the last letter of SHINE (E) to the front of GO leaves SHIN, a real word (the front of the lower leg), and forms EGO, a real word (a person's sense of self-importance). Option B moves a letter from the front of SHINE instead of the end, leaving HINE, which is not a real word. Option C does not move a letter at all, so SHINE stays whole and GO stays unchanged, which does not follow the rule. Option D moves two letters (N and E) instead of one, and neither SHI nor NEGO is a real word. Option E moves the middle letter I rather than the true last letter, leaving SHNE, which is not a real word either. Only option A correctly moves exactly one letter, the true last letter, from the end of the first word to the front of the second word. Apply this same careful, one-letter-at-a-time method throughout the pack, even as the sections move from meanings and compound words to hidden words, letter sequences, word codes, number series and odd one out: work out the rule precisely, test each option in turn, and check that both resulting words are correctly spelled before choosing.
