In each question, a made-up rule turns the letters of one word into a code. Study the example word and its code to work out the rule, then apply the same rule to the second word. Choose the one option, A to E, that shows the correct code (or, in some questions, the correct word). Only one option can be right for each question.

Worked example. If the code for RIVER is SJWFS, what is the code for STONE? Answer: TUPOF. Each letter of RIVER has been moved 1 place forward in the alphabet to make the code SJWFS: R+1=S, I+1=J, V+1=W, E+1=F, R+1=S. Applying the same rule to STONE: S+1=T, T+1=U, O+1=P, N+1=O, E+1=F, giving the code TUPOF.
