Reasoning Practice Paper 10 is the final full-length mock of a Year 6 SATs Mathematics Reasoning paper in this set, mixing number, calculation, fractions, decimals and percentages, ratio, measurement, geometry, statistics and algebra in one timed test.

Before you start

Make sure you're comfortable with these topics first:

Method

  1. Treat this paper as a final check: work through it under timed conditions, exactly as you would on the real SATs papers.
  2. For a statistics question, read any table or chart carefully before calculating, checking exactly what each row, column or bar represents.
  3. For a mean (average) question, add all the values together first, then divide by how many values there are.
  4. For a geometry question, use the correct angle fact for the shape or arrangement given: a straight line sums to 180 degrees, a full turn sums to 360 degrees, a triangle sums to 180 degrees, and a quadrilateral sums to 360 degrees.
  5. For an algebra or sequence question, work out the term-to-term rule from the numbers you are given before trying to extend the sequence.
  6. In the final few minutes, go back through every question and check the answer is written in the exact form the question asked for.

Worked example

A bar chart shows the number of books read by 4 pupils in a month: Amy 12, Ben 9, Cara 15, Dev 8. What is the mean number of books read?

  1. Add all four values together to find the total: 12 + 9 + 15 + 8 = 44.
  2. Count how many pupils there are: 4 pupils.
  3. Divide the total by the number of pupils to find the mean: 44 divided by 4 = 11.
  4. The mean number of books read is 11.
