GL-STYLE MIXED MOCK 5: MATHS AND VERBAL REASONING. Time allowed: 45 minutes in total, split into two timed sections - do not turn back to Section 1 once Section 2 has begun. Section 1: Mathematics - 25 questions, 25 minutes, no calculator allowed. Section 2: Verbal Reasoning - 30 questions, 20 minutes, across six question types (5 questions each), each introduced with its own one-line instruction: Hidden Words, Odd One Out, Verbal Analogies, Create the Middle Word, Letter Sequences, and Number Codes. Every question is multiple choice with five options, A to E, and is worth 1 mark. Choose the single best answer for each question. There is no negative marking, so attempt every question. Total marks available: 55. Work as quickly and carefully as you can, and check your answers if you finish a section early.
Worked example. Worked example (Hidden Words): A word is hidden across two consecutive words in this sentence. Find it: 'We plan tea for four guests.' Answer: ANT. Join the two consecutive words 'plan' and 'tea' to get 'plantea'. Reading from the last letter of 'plan' and the first two letters of 'tea' gives A-N-T, spelling ANT. Always join each pair of consecutive words in turn and scan for a real word spanning the join.
