How to practise exam questions by topic

  1. Choose the topic that cost marks in classwork or a past paper. Try the questions without notes so the first attempt shows what the student can actually recall.
  2. Use the mark scheme to compare the method as well as the final answer. For written subjects, check that each credited point is stated clearly; for calculations, identify the first step that went wrong.
  3. Revisit the same topic after a gap, then mix it into a full paper. Topic practice repairs one weakness at a time, while a timed paper checks whether the method can still be recognised among other questions.

Spell the word for the sound in this sentence: 'The children went to catch the b__s to school.' (the word rhymes with 'us' and means more than one large road vehicle)

  1. Say the word slowly: 'buses'.
  2. Break it into sounds: b-u-s-e-s.
  3. Spell the root word first: 'bus'.
  4. Because 'bus' ends in 's', add '-es' rather than just '-s' to make it easier to say.
  5. Put the letters together: b-u-s-e-s.
  6. Final answer: buses.
